Summary:
Ciel decides to play a stupid game. Sebastian indulges him.

Ciel was a master strategist. He enjoyed the satisfaction of seeing a well-planned scheme come to fruition. When every move was carefully considered, every game piece accounted for and every possible outcome turned over in his head again and again, until there was no room for failure. To him, there was nothing sweeter than a planned victory.

That wasn’t to say he didn’t enjoy a bit of unplanned excitement every now and again.

That is why, while walking down the streets of London with Sebastian, he had decided to take a wrong turn down a shady alleyway and run. Completely on a whim. No particular rhyme or reason to his actions. No specific goal in mind. He just wanted to run.

He also wanted to see what the demon would do, he supposed.

Not surprisingly, Sebastian had caught up to him almost immediately. Seemingly materializing out of thin air, he had appeared before Ciel and caught him in his arms with a firm grasp. Not quite squeezing him. He wouldn’t dare.

Ciel looked up to see the blank expression on the creature’s face. Eerie, still as a wax statue. Then, as if just remembering he was supposed to be impersonating a human, Sebastian schooled his expression into one of mild confusion and concern.

“Is everything all right, sir?”

The mock worry in his voice was simply too much. Ciel could barely contain his laughter as he broke free from Sebastian’s hold and bounded down the alleyway yet again. The amused ‘hmph’ and the clicking of polished Oxfords on cobblestone signified that the butler had understood the rules of this particular game.

And so, Ciel ran. He ran as fast as his frail little legs and his asthma would allow. And with each puff of his breath and click of his heels, he swore he could hear a faint chuckle echoing off the grimy walls of the alley.

“Silly little thing,” the very air rushing past his face seemed to whisper. “Do you really think you can run from me?”

Obviously not. Ciel knew there was no escape from something like Sebastian.

He huffed and ducked into a different path branching from the alleyway, only to find the demon stepping out of the shadows in front of him. All polite smiles and burning eyes and coattails that fluttered like smoke.

Skidding to a halt, Ciel took another turn and kept running. Until he ran into Sebastian again. Another turn, and more running, and Sebastian, again. Another turn, and another, and-

Dead end.

He whipped around and his ragged breath caught in his throat at the sight of Sebastian looming above him.

“Got you.” it whispered, and Ciel could see each individual fang in the creature’s mouth as it drew closer and pressed him to the cold wall.

Ciel knew there was no escape from something like Sebastian. It was a good thing he never wanted to escape, anyway.
